So I've been here at my mom's house- and cat-sitting since Saturday. There hasn't been much of anything to do, just homework, TV, and surfing the interweb. Friends are too far away to hang out with and come back here when I'm so poor and gas is so expensive, and no one wants to come out here. I've been waiting for today because it's my last day here and I get to go home after picking up mother and mother's boyfriend at the airport. Buuut, their flight has been delayed a couple of times and they're stuck in New York. So I'm sitting here just waiting for a call letting me know that they're boarding the plane so that I can wait another hour before leaving for Portland to pick them up. Lots of fun.

Survey to Occupy Myself!
06:59pm 08/01/2007
1.) When showering, do you start the water and then get in or get in and start the water? Start the water, let it warm up, then get in.
2.) Do you read the labels on your shampoo and conditioner bottles? Not when I'm in the shower, unless I need an excuse to stay in longer. I love long hot showers.
3.) Do you moan in the shower like the people on the herbal essence commercial? Usually. Depends on who's around and what kind of shampoo it is.
4.) Have you ever showered with someone of the opposite sex? Yes.
5.) Have you ever been forced to shower with one of your siblings? Only child FTW!
6.) Have you ever brushed your teeth in the shower? A few times.
7.) Have you ever dropped your soap on your foot? Probably
8.) How old do you look? 20-ish?
9.) How old do you act? 12-ish?
10.) What's the last song you sang? Don't remember.
11.) Have you recently become a member of anything? I don't think so.
12.) What are your plans for the weekend? Visit people, pack stuff up, enjoy sleeping in my king size bed before being forced to go back to the twin at school.
13.) Do you kiss with your eyes opened or closed? Both.
14.) Have you ever ridden a mechanical bull? No.
15.) Do you ever intentionally vomit after eating? Nah.
16.) If you were working on a pirate ship, what would you most likely be? The one that gets the most treasure for the least work.
17.) Have you ever called anyone a slut? Not seriously.
18.) Have you ever been called a slut? No.
19.) Have you ever smuggled something into America? Shells and coral and junk from the Caribbean.
20.) Does playing the guitar make a girl/guy more attractive? No.
21.) Do you live in a city with a good sports team? Sports don't exist in Bowdoin.
22.) Have you ever finished off the popcorn? Sure.
23.) How many people do you think would come to your funeral? 10 thousand? How the hell am I supposed to know?
24.) How many of them would come just to make sure you're dead? All of them.
25.) Do you have more enemies or more friends? Friends, or so they tell me.
26.) Have you ever sent an anonymous letter? No. What's the point?
27.) Can you fix your own car? If I had to, probably not unless it were really simple, but that's ok because I drive a Toyota and it doesn't need fixing.
28.) Have you ever turned someone down for a date? Ehh. Sort of, yeah.
29.) Are you smarter than your friends? I don't know.
30.) Have you ever stolen anything from your friends? Don't think so. If I did, it was minor.
31.) Have you ever been to jail? Only for rolling doubles three times in a row.
32.) Should you have? I don't think so.
32.) Do you like the taste of beer? Wouldn't know

35.) Have you ever given to charity? Yup.
36.) Would you kill a dog for $1000? Depends.
37.) Do you ever get depressed? Don't know. Maybe?
38.) Do you live with your parents? When I'm not at school.
39.) Do you have plans for your future? Try to not die.

So I'm in Williamstown. It's in the very NW corner of Mass. if anyone wants to pretend they care. Tory has to do this January term thing where everyone takes a pass/fail class. I think it's a pretty big waste of time and it messes up their break schedule. They have to start the January term at the beginning of January, and once it's over they get a week off. They don't get out for Spring Break until mine is over and summer starts like half a month later for them. Oh well, it gives me an opportunity to spend a week here. I like it here better than Orono. It's a lot nicer here because they have a larger endowment and the tuition is over $40,000 a year and 60% of the kids get no financial aid whatsoever. It's a good time, but I'm headed home tomorrow.

Yeah that's really all for now.

Kbye.

Split Me Open at the Seams
11:47pm 13/11/2006

mood: blank
So tonight is the night that all sophomores at school sign up for courses at midnight. It's a somewhat exciting time: staying up until midnight, registering for courses online, while everyone else in your class in. As you might figure, that makes the internet run really slow, so it takes a while for it to display that you've gotten into the course you wanted. Sometimes you have to try a couple times, and other times you're done in 5 minutes. It's about as edge-of-your-seat at registering for classes can get, short of having to sword fight your way through ninjas. Normally, it's no problem for me to stay up until midnight. Hell, the tv's usually on until then. Just cause I have to stay up that late tonight to sign up for classes though, I'm tired already. I'm sure that once it gets closer to 12, the excitement and andrenaline will take over and I won't be tired anymore.

I figured since I'm talking about classes, and there are some people who don't see me on a daily basis, I'd make a mid-semester report on all of the classes I'm taking now.

PSY 100 - Intro to Psychology. It's an all right course. The prof is pretty out there, and Max and I mostly just make fun of everything that goes on in the class. It tries to cover as much psych as it can without going deeply into any of it. That's a nice way to get your feet wet, but I guess it's not what I'm looking for right now. It's mildly interesting, but I don't really want to know about how fear creates automonous changes in my internal organs. I'm just not that interested.

FRE 101 - Intro to French. This is a pretty decent class. I was really intimidated by it at first, but I think I'm settling in finally. I have some pretty cool friends in this class, and I'm getting more comfortable with the actual French part of it. Taking four years of Spanish really doesn't help with learning French, either. They're both romance languages, so they're both similar. I find my self writing stuff in Spanish on the test that I don't even know how to say in French. I think I would still rather have gone through that than taken German. FRE 101 comes with a lab, but it meets once a week for 50 minutes and isn't really worth mentioning.

MAT 101 - Nature and Language of Math. This course would be a lot more betterer if the prof were different. If you want to get a glimpse of him, image search "Henry Pogorzelski." A bit of background on the guy: he's 82 years old, served in WW2, and studied somewhere (Cambridge, maybe) with Einstein. He's completely deaf and goes off on tangents which have nothing to do with math. We don't actually do math in this class, and have been told countless things that have been recognized to be blatantly wrong. We have a test every two weeks, consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions. We're allowed to use our notes, our text book, and work in groups. When we've got all the questions answered, we go up and check them against the TA's answers (the TA is really the prof's wife. she's Austrialian, and a correct adjective for her would be zany), and in the process, she pretty much gives us the answers. It's a 100 person class, but only about 10 kids show up on a regular basis.

ENG 222 - Reading Poems. This class is all right. There is a lot of homework, and there's a lot of reading out loud in class which I'm not huge on. I get all nervous that I'm going mis-pronounce something or stutter or something, which makes me mis-pronounce words and stumble my way through it. I didn't used to be so keen on poems, but they're starting to grow on me. I feel like I could effectively express feelings and junk through poems at this point. I'll be happy when this class is over.

ENG 271 - The Act of Interpretation. This is by far my least favorite class. There's lots of literary theory which is way over my head. The prof also has a really thick Italian accent. At 75 minutes a sitting, that gets to be a bit much to handle. I'll definitely be happy when this class is over and I don't have to take another theory class.

ENG 212 - Persuasive and Analytical writing. This is probably my favorite English class. It's pretty straightforward: pick a debatable topic, pick a side, argue and show why the other side is wrong. The paper that I'm working on now is on why we should eat babies.

Find “love”, how many songs show up?
53, helped largely by a lot of album titles having love in them

Yeah, so there's not a whole lot going on in Patworld currently. I have facial hairs now. Now that there's about a month left in the semester, I think that I've learned how to handle having six classes and a lab. Oh well. You can't say that I'm an academic slacker...unless I fail all my classes, then you can say that. For those of you who don't know, Tory and I broke up when we went back to our colleges, but then we got back together and things are happy again. I'm taking a 400-level English course next semester. I have a feeling I'll regret that, but I really don't have any other choice. I worked the whole summer at Fat Boy, and because of promotions and lack of last year's frappe boys coming back, I was pretty much the head frappe boy. That was nice, but I just hated working there the whole time. If I start talking about wanting to go back there next summer, someone please come up to me on the street and smack me. I take French now. I don't know about that. I took Spanish high school. They're both romance languages, so they're kind of similar. That's a double-edged sword though because I try to talk in Spanish. Oh well. I've got to take French now until semester two of Junior year. I'm sure that there's more that I could talk about, but the Orono v. UNH game is on in 8 minutes, so I have to get ready for that.

3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button

Random
11:06am 27/07/2006
So I'm driving down 201 to work yesterday, and there's this turtle in the road. I don't hit it, but I can see that it's still alive because it's craning its neck to look around. Should I pull over? Well, I don't know which side of the road it's coming from or where it's trying to get to. I'll just let nature take its course. Half a mile down the road: No, I can't just leave a poor defenseless turtle in the road. It'll be my good deed for the day. So I turn around and head back. When I get there, there's a truck already pulled over. Oh, I guess these guys are moving it. So I turn around a little ways up the road and start going back in the other direction, only to see the guy who picked up the turtle take it into the truck with him and drive off.

What a burn.

It's wanting what you've got
08:02am 20/12/2005
Waking up this morning was a blur. I remember looking at the clock at 7:33. My roommate had a final today at 8 AM, his clock is set 3 minutes faster than mine. I didn't realize that until later, when I was awake. I rolled over and tried to fall back asleep but the lovely steam-pipe heating system saw to it that I didn't. Sirens joined forces with the pipes to halt any further sleep. It seemed like the only way the sirens could have gotten louder was if they came in the room.

It's all in your head, just relax and fall back asleep

Voices in the hall, loud voices. I couldn't tell the emotion in them, though I tried. Angry, happy or giddy, I couldn't tell. I rolled over.

Jesus Christ, it's fucking 7:45 AM, shut the hell up!

Realizing that the voices weren't about to stop, I got up, pulled my pants and a shirt on, and opened the door, pissed. I wasn't going to say anything, but was hoping that the loud assholes in the hall would see me in my groggy daze and realize they were being too loud too early.

The people I saw weren't kids my age, dressed in t-shirts and baggy shorts shooting the shit, but rather EMT people communicating about and planning the move of a shirtless person lying on a stretcher on the floor to the ambulance waiting outside.

And I was pissed that I was woken up...

Pat's Last Night
07:57pm 01/09/2005

mood: indescribable
That's right, folks, tonight is my last night before college, and I'm feeling the sentimentality deeply. Andy and I went on our adventure last night, which involved staying up all night and going to eat breakfast at The Kopper Kettle at 530, when it opened this morning. Then he and I were driving around tonight, listening to Thursday. We went around MTA and I was sad. I'm going to miss this damn town so much. I don't really think I'm ready for college yet, but it's going to happen anyway. That's where I am right now.

I really don't
03:31pm 20/08/2005

mood: discontent
I don't know. I was packing my stuff for college and throwing away shit that I didn't need/want anymore. Everything has to be packed up or thrown away so that mom can sell the house after I move. College is such a big leap for me without not being able to come back to the house I grew up in. It's hard to think about someone else living in my house, someone else's car in my spot in the driveway. Cleaning out my room, I found lots of little things that were gifts from when I was younger, or things I used to collect when I was little. I didn't have any use for these things, no reason to keep them. They should've been thrown away a long time ago, but I never did. So many memories, so many things I wanted to do. It was just a really powerful expirience for me, I've been avoiding cleaning out/packing up my room because I didn't want to have to deal with this part of my life ending. Yeah, I'm ready for this part of my life to end and go to college, but at the same time, I'm really content with where I'm at now and I don't want to leave it at all. It will be easier having a friend for my roommate. This is going to be hard.

A pine branch and some clouds.

I went for a pretty long kayak trip to Castle Island, and when I got back, mom was taking pictures of me.

The dock at night time.

Looking across the livingroom from the bathroom.

Looking down from the hallway where the bedrooms were.

Again.

Getting art-y again.

The view from the porch.

The view from the steps.

Stepmother kayaking in shimmer-y water.

Again.

Again.

Me sitting on the dock.

Looking into the dining room from the livingroom.

Looking across the living room from the kitchen.

"Oh boy. Another Sunfish."
